Review:   4 stars!  Picking Up The Pieces is a story of love, heartbreak, strength and forgiveness.  This was an excellent novel by the debuting author Jessica Prince.

Emerson Grace has been best friends with Lucas Allen since his family moved in down the street from her when she was six years old.  Years later, Emmy is ready to leave for college, but is completely taken off guard when Lucas announces he has plans of his own.  Plans that will take him out of Cloverleaf, TX and away from her.  The threat of his departure makes Emmy realize how she truly feels about Luke.  Deciding to act on what her heart is screaming for, Emmy spends an amazing night with him.  One night that will change the course of their relationship in ways neither is prepared for.

Eight years later, Luke returns to Cloverleaf.  He knows he screwed up and it will take time for Emmy to forgive him, but he could never have predicted the reaction the entire community has to his reappearance.  Without fully understanding Emmy's hostility to him, he sets out to try to earn her forgiveness.  The pain Emmy feels goes much deeper than he can even imagine.  The question is, will Emmy be able to move beyond the past and head into the future with Luke by her side?

This novel had my emotions all over the place.  One moment I was struggling with Emmy's heartache.  Feeling the heaviness in my own chest as she fought with her grief.  The next I was angry with Luke for being so blind and naive; wanting to slap him in the face.  However, no matter how upset I was with him I still rooted for him.  Cheering him along each step of the way.  Hoping he would find away to win Emmy back.

I also give the author credit for supplying Emmy and Luke with an amazing supporting cast.  Emmy's closest friends came together and formed a close knit family.  I adored Savannah's character.  She was fiery and fierce, ever devoted to her best friend and sister.  I enjoyed Brett in his 'big brother' role, always looking out for Emmy.  Most of all I love Trevor.  He was part comic relief, part teddy bear.  I would really enjoy reading more of his story.

I would highly recommend this novel.  It was beautifully written and will warm your heart.

Happy reading!!

I'm a wife, mother, wino, coffee addict and avid a lover of all types of books, but romances are my main favs. My husband likes to say reading is my obsession but I just say it's my passion... there's a difference.
I've been writing since I was a little kid and I finally decided to take the leap and actually publish when Picking up the Pieces came to me. Now that I've been bitten by the writing bug I just can't seem to stop.

  1. That is such a hard question to answer! My favorite childhood book was Anne of Green Gables!
