Review: Bang by E.K. Blair

Amazon  *  B&N  *  Goodreads

Synopsis: They say when you take revenge against another you lose a part of your innocence.
But I’m not innocent.
I haven’t been for a very long time.
My innocence was stolen from me. Taken was the life I was supposed to have. The soul I was born with. The ruby heart embedded in a life full of hopes and dreams.

Gone.
Vanished.

I never even had a choice.
I mourn that life. Mourn the what-ifs.
Until now.
I’m ready to take back what was always meant to be mine.

But every plan has a fatal flaw. Sometimes it’s the heart.

**Due to the dark and explicit nature of this book, it is recommended for mature audiences only.*

Review:  Allow me a moment to take a few deep breaths to compose myself after just finishing Bang.  Holy hell!  Bang is a twisting, turning, gut wrenching, heart racing, tear inducing, nerve splitting roller coaster ride from start to finish.  After finishing this book I find myself asking two very important questions.  First, how is it possible that I have not read books by E.K Blair before?  This author is an effing genius.  Two, how will I go on about my day now that I turned the final page of this book?

Now, this review is not going to be super in depth, because the plot is very intricate and I do not want to giveaway too much, potentially ruining it for anyone who hasn't read it yet.  I will say that the author does a great job building the story line.  She starts off offering small hints of where the plot is going and slowly builds the suspense until the end you are so tense you are a shaking pile of pent up emotions.

I also have to warn you that the warning in the synopsis should not be taken lightly.  Taking it seriously, because some of the subject matter in this book is not for the kind at heart or for those with a weak stomach.  I am fairly desensitized by many plot elements, but even I cringed and gasped at moments through out this book.  The author is warning you, so don't be mad later on if you are upset by something.

I loved the characters the author created.  I found the heroine to be stronger than she believes and more fragile than she lets on.  I really enjoyed the sharp contrasts in her personality.  For me this made her character more believable.  I also really enjoyed the dynamic of her relationships.  There is nothing cookie-cutter about the interactions between her ans the men in her life or her struggles.

There is also one more part of Bang I would like to call out and that is Carnegie.  He was such an unlikely element in this book, but I absolutely loved him and thought this was a brilliant addition.

If you haven't read Bang yet I highly recommend you do.

Happy reading!!

Review: Taint by S.L Jennings

Amazon  *  Goodreads  *  B&N

Synopsis:
Right now, you’re probably asking yourself two things:
Who am I?
And, what the hell are you doing here?
Let’s start with the most obvious question, shall we?

You’re here, ladies, because you can’t f*ck.

Oh, stop it. Don’t cringe. No one under the age of 80 clutches their pearls.
You might as well get used to it, because for the next six weeks, you’re going to hear that word a lot. And you’re going to say it a lot.
Go ahead, try it out on your tongue. F*ck. F***ck.

Ok, good. Now where were we?

If you enrolled yourself in this program then you are wholly aware that you’re a lousy lay. Good for you. Admitting it is half the battle.

For those of you that have been sent here by your husband or significant other, dry your tears and get over it. You’ve been given a gift, ladies. The gift of mind-blowing, wall-climbing, multiple-orgasm-inducing sex. You have the opportunity to f*ck like a porn star. And I guarantee, you will when I’m done with you.

And who am I?
Well, for the next six weeks, I will be your lover, your teacher, your best friend, and your worst enemy. Your every-f*cking-thing. I’m the one who is going to save your relationship and your sex life.

I am Justice Drake.
And I turn housewives into whores.
Now…who’s first?

Review:
When I first read the blurb for this book I was intrigued.  It didn't sound like the books I have been reading, and frankly I am getting tired of the same cookie-cutter plot line.  Also, I am I big S.L. Jennings fan, so I figured I had nothing to lose.  I danced my happy little fingers over to Amazon and 1-clicked before I had time to second guess my decision.

When I began reading I wasn't sure if I had made the right choice.  I mean the blurb does say he is going to teach this rich woman how to keep their men happy by teaching them how to please them in the bedroom.  Now, in this line of work I have read many things, so at this point, I don't think would really shock me.  Seriously, if the sexy Justice Drake laid each one down and screwed their brains out, I wouldn't have been surprised.  Thankfully, that is not what happened.

Justice Drake is offering a service to these snobby, cold woman in an effort to help them save their marriages and keep their men from straying.  Well, offering a service is a stretch.  The circumstances that has brought these woman to his oasis is questionable, but his program is meant to help.

Now, I have read that others felt that this plot was degrading to woman.  I could see how the premise of this book could be seen that way.  I mean why would it be something these woman did wrong that caused their husbands penises to wander all over town.  I agree that perhaps they should have womaned up and kick their philandering asses to the curb.  But I don't think there is anything wrong with giving a woman the tools and confidence to feel sexy again and bring the spice back into their marriage.  I truly believe that was the message behind this book.

The heroine, Ally, could have been a little stronger.  I would have liked to see her be a little fiercer.  I felt like she was a little too wishy-washy.  I also felt the ending was rushed.  I kept tapping my iPad trying to get the page to turn when I finally realized it ended.

Overall, I thought this was a nice little book and a quick read.

Happy Reading!!

Blog Tour: More Than I Asked For by: T.J. Tims

More Than I Asked For blog tour banner

Book One in the More Than DC series by T.J. Tims Genevieve Westley lives inside of her head. Her only connection to life; her two best friends, her grandparents, and her heart wrenching emotionally driven artwork. Finally stepping out of her comfort zone, a night out with her friends has her stepping into the arms of Lucas Alexander. Lucas has been labeled many things; rock star, CEO, devastatingly handsome panty dropper. When these two collide their electric chemistry has them racing towards their happily ever after, but is that enough? Secret after secret bombards them, turning Gen’s peaceful existence to chaos and confusion. With more questions than answers will she give it all up or fight, even if it’s more than she asked for?

Genevieve and Lucas meet at a bar and quickly fall head over heels with each other. Quickly going from an only child, who’s parents passed away to a having a full extended group of friends and family she fears that it is too good to be true and everything will be ripped away from her.

I loved this story. Although the relationship between everyone moved extremely quickly, the story line flows effortlessly. TJ Tims detailed every character flawlessly and painted a vivid picture in the mind of the readers. I hope the story of this crazy group isn’t over just yet.

*I received a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.*

author picRaised in New Jersey on the shore, TJ began reading romance novels at the age of fourteen when she picked up Elda Minger’s The Dare. From that day forward she hasn’t stopped reading romance novels of all subgenres. While focusing on her career working in a corporate office and reading at night TJ somehow found herself married and pregnant when she paused to breathe between novels. After being laid off and giving birth to her son, she threw herself into being a stay at home mom. One month her husband was very upset at her for spending forty dollars on books when she became “one click” happy, later that evening when doing the math she realized she spent FOUR HUNDRED dollars on books, silly husband somehow dropped a zero. Destroying the evidence since she was already placed on book probation, TJ decided to think of ways to curb her purchasing. The only way that would satisfy her active mind seemed to be exercising it by writing her own stories. A story turned into a novel, and a novel into a series. During the day TJ focuses on her household that is overrun with testosterone; one beefcake husband, one son that takes after beefcake husband, and two male dogs. In evening she taps away at her keyboard letting her mind play. Be sure to follow TJ on Facebook for any updates. www.facebook.com/authortjtims

She still has those legal pads full of stories, but now one of them is published under the title How He Really Feels. She currently works as a full time high school English teacher, and her favorite part of the year is summer. She has been blessed with the world’s best dog, a supportive family, and a husband who encouraged her to publish after reading one of her novels. Review: Chaysing Memories by Jalpa Williby

Chaysing Memories is the second story in Jalpa Williby's Chaysing trilogy. If you have not read Chaysing Dreams I suggest you stop reading this review as it could contain spoilers pertaining to the first book.
I fell in love with Tess and Chayse in the first book. I loved the twist and turns and the paranormal/scifi feel on the books. It was different from the other novels I had been reading. Chaysing Memories is no different. This novel is not your run of the mill romance novel. It is thrilling and had me on the edge of my seat in suspense.
At the end of Chaysing Dreams, Chayse must make a difficult decision. One that will change his and Tess' life forever. That decision left Tess with large gaping holes where her most precious memories of Chayse once lived. Chaysing Memories is the story of Tess' journey to regain what she has lost, in more ways than one.
Jalpa did an excellent job not only reacquainting the characters with one another but also making me fall further in love with them. The one and only gripe I have over this book is the ending! Be warned it has one hell of a cliffhanger. I think I am still in denial, but hope to be pleasantly surprised with the third book.

Happy Reading!

Not too far away...

Hey everyone!  This morning Jess yelled at me, saying I have been neglecting the blog.  Now since she is my younger sister over the course of my life I have conditioned myself to ignore her, but this time she is right (don't tell her I said that).  Over the last few weeks I have been distant from the blog, watching from a far, but I swear I have good reasons.
First, as you may know I am a full time mom with a full time job and my children are obsessed with soccer.  I am sure I don't need to tell how crazy this can be.  At the end of 2013 I received a promotion at work.  I love what I do, but this new position can be stressful.  I find myself so exhausted some nights I can't keep my eyes open long enough at night to read a page, never mind a chapter.  Also, after work or on the weekends you can find me on the sidelines of a soccer field at least four days a week.  My kids love it and are quite good, so I don't mind.  Now you might think that all this time at the field is the perfect time to read, but trust me when I say I so busy biting my nails to keep me from screaming and routing like a crazy person that reading is not an option.
The second reason I have taken a little break is I felt burnt out.  During the months of November and December Jess and I over scheduled blog posts.  Some weeks we had eight to ten blog tours to prepare for.  With so many posts due and deadlines stressing us out the blog began to feel like a second job and not the page I started for fun.  I needed to take a breather to find the fun again.
Thirdly, what many of you may not know is I have been writing a little something of my own over the last few weeks.  Back in February a few characters invaded my life and I cannot get rid of them.  I know it sounds cliche, but they will not leave me alone.  In those rare moment of peace and quiet they pop up out of no where and invade my mind.  Now, the world may never meet Izzie and Desmond, but I feel compelled to try to write their story.  I am happy to say I have almost 40,000 words written, but Izzie has a lot to say and I fear 40,000 words is only a fraction of her story.
Now with all of that said, I promise to get back in the saddle.  I have a few reviews to write up tonight and have a few books in the hopper.  I want to thank all of you for sticking around and following our little page.  I may not have been posting all of the time, but I have been watching the amazing job Jess has been doing (round of applause).

Sincerely,
Jenn

Title: Corrupt
Author: Penelope Douglas
Genre: Dark, Erotic, Contemporary Romance
Expected Release Date: Spring 2015
Cover Designed by: Kari from Cover to Cover Designs
Synopsis

I was told that dreams were our heart’s desires. My nightmares, however, became my obsession.

His name is Michael Crist.

My boyfriend’s older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He is handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team and now gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.

But I noticed him.

I saw him. I heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid…For years, I bit my nails, unable to look away.

Now, I’ve graduated high school and moved on to college, but I haven’t stopped watching Michael. He’s bad, and the dirt I’ve seen isn’t content to stay in my head anymore.

Because he’s finally noticed me.

Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika.

My brother’s girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven’t had her body, I know that I have her mind. That’s all I really want anyway.

Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college.

In my city.

Unprotected.

The opportunity is too good to be true as well as the timing. Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now they’re out.

We've waited. We've been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true.

***Corrupt is stand-alone dark erotica set to be released Spring 2015.***
