Synopsis:  Desperate to break free…

I've spent my entire life under my father’s thumb, but now I'm finally free to make my own choices. When my roommate dragged me to my first college party, I met Finn Coram and my life turned inside out. He knows how to break the rules and is everything I never knew I wanted. A Marine by day and surfer by night, he pushes me away even as our attraction brings us closer. Now I am finally free to do whatever I want. I know what I want. I choose Finn.

Trying to play by the rules...

I always follow orders. My job, my life, depends on it. I thought this job would be easy, all the rules were made crystal clear, but when I met Carrie Wallington, everything got muddy. She's a rule I know I shouldn't break, but damn if I don’t inch closer to the breaking point each time I see her. I’m ready to step out of line. And even worse? I’m living a lie. They say the truth will set you free, but in my case…

The truth will cost me everything.

Review:  Out of Line is the coming of age story of Carrie and Finn.  Carrie is the only daughter of a well known, high profile Washington politician on the short list to be a presidential candidate one day.  To say her father is over protective would be an huge understatement.  Carrie must have security with her at all times, everywhere she goes, and all of her 'friends' must pass a rigorous background check to be deemed suitable.

All Carrie wants is to be "normal".  To be able to head off to college and have the typical college experience; the parties, the boys, the new friends.  A chance to take a few risks and find out who she really is without a watchful eye near by.

Finn was sent across the country to California on one mission, be invisible.  He objective is to blend into the background and keep an eye on the senator snotty brat.  To watch over a privileged little princess who had been born with a silver spoon in her mouth and make sure she stays out of trouble.  What a joke or so he thought.  All of the files he read couldn't prepare Finn for the moment when he stepped from the shadows and met Carrie for the first time.  All of his preconceived notions of her went out the window.

Both Carrie and Finn have their reservations about their relationship.  Carrie struggles to trust Finn.  Finn struggles with his own guilt.  However, sometimes there is no denying the jolt of electricity that sparks between two people.  Can Carrie trust Finn with her secrets?  Will Finn be able hide the truth from Carrie?

I thought the author did a great job developing the plot.  It was clear early on what would happen, but it didn't lessen the suspense or shock.  Carrie's lack of real world experience was realistic.  I enjoy seeing into the life of a pseudo-celebrity.  Reading of the struggles of those in the lime light is always grounding.  It is a nice reminder that people in these positions just want to be regular people and not hounded by the masses.  I adored Finn.  I enjoyed his possessive moments, as well as, the inner battle he fought with himself about whether or not to reveal his true identity.

The author leaves us with a massive cliffhanger.  I believe I figured out what will happen next, but I can't wait to see if I am right.  Bring on book #2!!  Maybe Finn has a hot alpha marine brother the author would like to introduce?? ;)

Happy reading!!
