Review: Axel (Corps Security) by: Harper Sloan

Axel (Corps Security)
By: Harper Sloan

Synopsis: **Warning**
This book is intended for a mature reading audience and isn't suitable for younger readers.

Fate hasn’t always been friends with Isabelle West. In fact, fate has been a downright bitch.

Isabelle has learned the hard way how hard life can be when fate isn’t by your side. It can hand you dreams on silver platters, but it can snatch them right back and hand you nightmares. One thing Isabelle knew for sure fate was consistent with was taking away everything she ever loved.

For the last two years Isabelle has been slowly clearing the clouds of her past. Happiness is finally on the horizon. She has a thriving business, great friends, and her life back. All she has to do is jump over the last hurdle…her ex-husband.

When problems start causing her to fear her new life, and memories that are better left forgotten start rushing to the surface the last thing she needs is a ghost from her past to come knocking on her door.

Axel never thought he would look into the eyes of Isabelle West again, and he wasn’t sure he wanted to now. He’s carried his anger for so long he isn’t sure he can just turn it off, but when he is faced with protecting her and an unexpected desire to have her again, life gets a little more complicated.

How will Axel and Isabelle deal when all their cards are put on the table and everything they thought was true blows up in their faces?

Review: The story of Izzy and Axel shows that love never dies. It is the unyielding sliver of light that shines even in the darkest of times.  It is a rare love that cuts deeply, but it so powerful that it can heal any wound.  I really enjoy their story.

Izzy has spent the last few years at the mercy of her husband, Brandon.  Gone are the lavish gifts and romantic getaways.  Instead, they have been replaced with painful bruises and nights shuddering in fear.  Fate has dealt Izzy a horrible hand and she is playing it the best she can.  Day by day Izzy is slowly dying inside.  Her heart is no longer filled with joy and love.  It no longer beats freely.  There is an empty void in Izzy's chest because many years ago her heart left on a bus headed for boot camp and was never seen of or heard from again.  Her heart has always belonged to Axel and with her knight in shining armor gone, she is left to endure the wrath of Brandon.

Axel promised he would return for Izzy.  She was his girl.  He would do anything for her.  Izzy was his one true love.  Axel never planned to leave his princess forever.  But what happened?  Why didn't she wait for him?  Axel tried to stifle the love for her and replace it with hate.  It is easier to pretend he hates her then to admit that there has never been anyone else that fit him the way she did.

Fate, being the lovely bitch that she is, is not done with these two.  Thrown back together they are forced to face their pasts, confront their demons, and make amends.  Of course, Brandon will not make it easy for them.  What happens when your one true love comes crashing back into your life?  That is the true story of Axel and Izzy.

I adored certain parts of Izzy and Azel's story.  I love big strong alpha men.  They hold a soft spot in my heart, so of course I fell in love with Axel.  I enjoyed his take charge attitude and possessiveness.  I liked Izzy, the heroine who is not aware of just how strong she is until she is forced to react.  The connection between Izzy and Axel was palatable.  I could feel the electricity zinging off the pages.  When two halves of a soul reunite it is a powerful moment and it was amazing to read.

The one area I felt slightly let down was how quickly the plot unfolded.  I wanted to see Izzy have her happy ever after.  I really did.  I think part of me really wanted to see Axel grovel a little more.  Maybe have to fight just a little harder to win her back.  But this is just my opinion and should not reflect negatively on the overall storyline.  I really did enjoy this book from start to finish.

Being the first Harper Sloan book I have read I am interested to see what she does next.  If she can create a few more characters like Axel she may become a new favorite author of mine!

Happy reading!!
