Synopsis:
Lose a bet, lose your heart...
What is it about a junior-high crush that can send an otherwise intelligent woman into a tailspin? TV reporter Char Lynn wishes she knew. Jake Titus is too rich, too handsome, too arrogant: a trifecta that once lured Char into the best night-and worst morning-after-of her life. Now they've been thrown together in a wedding party. It's awkward, but survivable . . . until Jake stops acting like a jerk, and starts acting like the man she'd always hoped he could be.
If watching your brother marry your best friend is weird, being attracted to your best friend's other best friend is downright bizarre. Unfortunately for Jake, Char hasn't forgotten how he once tossed her aside. Worse still, Jake's already-nutty grandma is even crazier about Char. Cue meet-cute shenanigans and all manner of meddling, and somehow, Jake's falling. For Char. Now all he has to do is make her believe it . . .

I need to start off
by saying that I absolutely love Rachel Van Dyken! I have never read a book of
hers that I did not like and was anxiously awaiting for The Wager to be
released. After reading The Bet, I feel in love with the characters and
couldn’t wait to see what happened next! The Wager is through the eyes of
Char and Jake. Meeting in junior high, that have always had that connection but
it never went any further than that. Char felt that Jake was nothing but a “Man
Whore” even at that young age…. Boys will be boys…
Char is Kacey’s best
friend, we met Kacey back in The Bet when Jake convinced her to return home
with him and pretend to be his fiancé to trick his grandmother that he's 'grown up' and is ready to take over the family business, until she fell in love with his brother,
Travis. Since junior high, she has ran into the infamous Jake Titus a couple
of times. After a drunken night and a one night stand with Jake,
she wakes up to a thank you note…. Yes, that is what I said! He left a 'Thank
You for Last' night note on her pillow… SERIOUSLY? Makes me want to smack him!
After finding out
that they will be Maid of Honor and Best Man at Kacey and Travis’ wedding, she
makes it her goal to make him miserable… except… being around him proves to be
challenging in other ways.
Jake feels that
Karma is out to get him. Along with his Grandmother Nadine… Being with Kacey
again and being thrown into wedding ‘chores’ by his grandmother.
The more time he
spends with Char, the more he can’t deny his feelings. Knowing how she feels
about him, he is determined to stay away.
Jake is tired of
having the ‘man whore’ reputation, can he truly change his ways? Will the two
stop being so stubborn and denying their feelings towards each other? Can a
happily ever after truly exist for Jake?
I think the best part of this story had to have been Grandmas meddling. This is definitely one that you will laugh hysterically at. The dialog between all of the characters are amazing. If you haven't read The Bet get it today and then continue the amazing story with The Wager! You won’t be disappointed J I can’t wait to see what else Rachel comes up with!
Enjoy! <3
