'TBR' Tuesday: Saving Quinton (Nova #2) by Jessica Sorensen

Nova Reed can't forget him-Quinton Carter, the boy with the honey-brown eyes who made her realize she deserved more than an empty life. His pain was so similar to her own. But Nova has been coming to terms with her past and healing, while Quinton is out there somewhere, sinking deeper. She's determined to find him and help him . . . before it's too late.

Nova has haunted his dreams for nearly a year-but Quinton never thought a sweet, kind person like her would care enough about a person like him. To Quinton, a dark, dangerous life is exactly what he deserves. And Nova has no place in it. But Nova has followed him to Las Vegas, and now he must do whatever it takes to keep her away, to maintain his self-imposed punishment for the unforgivable things he's done. But there's one flaw in his plan: Nova isn't going anywhere . . .

Happy Release Day!!! THE DESTINY OF VIOLET & LUKE by Jessica Sorensen

Luke Price's life has always been about order, control, and acting tough on the outside. For Luke, meaningless relationships are a distraction-a way to tune out the twisted memories of his childhood. He desperately wishes he could forget his past, but it haunts him no matter what he does.

Violet Hayes has had a rough life. When she was young, she was left with no family and the memory of her parents' unsolved murders. She grew up in foster homes, living with irresponsible parents, drugs, and neglect, and trying to fight the painful memories of the night her parents were taken from her. But it's hard to forget when she never got closure-and she can't stop dreaming about what happened that tragic night. To make it through life, she keeps her distance from everyone and never allows herself to feel anything.

Then Violet meets Luke. The two clash instantly, yet they can't seem to stay away from each other. Although they fight it, they both start to open up and feel things they've never felt before. They discover just how similar they are. But they also discover something else: The past always catches up with you . . .

Excerpt
Luke
She reaches for my fries with an undecided look on her face. “So I have a question.”
“Okay…”
“About you.”
I slowly chew my food. “I’m not really sure I want to hear your question now.”
She picks a pickle off of her burger, pulling a repulsed face. “Well, I’m still going to ask it.”
I grab a handful of fries from the tray that’s on the table between us. “Go ahead and ask but it doesn’t mean I’ll answer.”
She props her elbows onto the table with her burger in her hand. “Why haven’t you ever talked to me before? I mean, we’ve walked past each other probably a hundred times, but never so much as acknowledged each other and then suddenly you’re stalking me.”
I pick up my soda and sip from the straw. “First off, I’m not stalking you. I just can’t seem to get rid of you.”
“You didn’t have to stop to pick me up.”
“Yeah, I did.”
“Why? You don’t know me—you’re in no way obligated to help me.”
“I know, but I wanted to.”
“Why?”
I shrug, setting my drink down. “Why not?”
She gives me a funny look, like I’m the most confusing person in the world, when really she should be looking at herself like that. “I don’t get it. Why would someone like you help someone like me?”
I open up the bun of my chicken sandwich to pick the tomato off. “What do you mean someone like me and someone like you?”
She points at me. “You as in a football player who has friends.” Then she points at herself. “And me as in the loner girl who could probably kick your ass.”
I choke on a laugh and my mouth full of food almost shoots out of my nose. “You could not kick my ass,” I cough, and then take a swallow of my drink.
She scans me over while scooping up some fries. “I beg to differ. I think you’re not as tough as you try to look.”
“Do you really?” If only she knew what really lay inside me. “Because most people think I am and for a good reason.”
“I think it’s all for show,” she replies nonchalantly and I can’t tell if she’s being serious or not. “I think that deep down you’re just a softy.”
“Are you trying to pick a fight with me right now?” I set my sandwich down on the tray and crack my knuckles. “Because I’m not going to fight a girl.”
“That’s such a typical guy answer.” She hurries and takes a drink, but I detect a hint of a smile before her lips wrap around the straw.
“You know what I think?” I cross my arms on the table and lean in, cocking my head to the side as I observe her closely. “I think you like arguing with me and that’s why you’re bringing this up.”
Her shoulders lift and descend as she takes a bite of her hamburger. “Maybe, but maybe I’m being serious.”
“You know that as a football player I have to tackle guys, right? It takes strength to do that.”
“Maybe you just run, though,” she counters. “Maybe you’re just good at running.”
The way she says it reminds me so much of my past and it’s like a kick to the stomach. “Maybe I’m not, though. Maybe I suck at running.” I sound choked and I decide it’s time to cut this conversation short, my brain seeking that potent taste of Jack and Tequila mixed with nicotine. I glance at my watch, pretending to check the time. “I just remembered that I have to meet Kayden somewhere in like a half an hour, so I’m going to have to take you back.”
She balls up the wrapper for her hamburger, acting nonchalant, but her shoulders are stiff. “Sounds good to me. I was done anyway.” She seems irritated and I have no idea why, other than she seems to be able to read through my bullshit and test me, which most people can’t and won’t even try. I’m supposed to be a closed book. A mystery. That way no one can see who I really am. It’s the way I’ve been living for years and it’s comfortable. Not ideal, but nothing is ideal.
We don’t talk as I collect our garbage and then walk next to her as she limps out to my truck. I try to offer her my arm and open the door for her, but she denies my offer, moving to the opposite door and pushing it open.
During the car ride, she barely says two words to me. I should be happy about it. That way there’s no room for sudden questions and statements that will set me off, however I find myself missing the bantering thing we had going and the way she pushed my buttons. By the time I drop her off, all I want to do is ask her to stay, talk some more, let me get to know her. But I don’t understand why. I’ve never wanted to get to know anyone before. I’ve never even been out on a date. Each woman I’ve been with, I’ve only been with once. Just sex. That’s all it’s ever about. And I’ve never wanted anything more.
Until now.

"To Be Read" Tuesday: The Temptation of Lila and Ethan by: Jessica Sorensen

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Ella and Micha series comes a gripping story of passion, pain, and the courage to love . . .
THE TEMPTATION OF LILA AND ETHAN

On the surface, Lila Summers is flawless: good looks, expensive clothes, and a big, beautiful smile. But a dark past and even darker secrets are threatening to bubble over her perfect façade. She'll do anything to keep the emptiness inside hidden-which leads her into situations that always end badly. Whenever she hits bottom, there's only one person who's there to pull her out: Ethan Gregory.

Ethan set the rules a long time ago: he and Lila are just friends. He doesn't do relationships. Although his tattooed, bad boy exterior is a far cry from Lila's pretty princess image, Ethan can't deny they have a deeper connection than he's used to. If he's not careful, he could be in serious danger of becoming attached-and he's learned the hard way that attachment only leads to heartbreak.

When Lila falls farther than she ever has before, can Ethan continue to help as a friend? Or is he also getting close to falling . . . for her?

Review:  (I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley.com/.)

Can a heart that has been shattered into a million tiny slivers, left scattered on the ground, be mended?  Is it possible for the jagged edges of two broken souls to fit perfectly together?  This is the story of Nova and Quinton.  Both are reeling from grief and guilt so heavy it is drowning them.  Lost in a haze of their despair the turn to alternative methods to numb the pain and end up finding each other.  Together they begin to see a glimmer of how life once was; before their worlds fell apart.  However, a glimpse of happiness isn't always enough to pull someone from the darkness.  Can either of them find the light or will they both drown in the turbulent sea of sorrow?

Jessica Sorensen can do no wrong.  She is amazing and every story she tells is wonderful.  With delicate brush strokes she paints the hazy lives of Nova and Quinton.  I could smell the woodsy scents in the air and see the blur around the edges.  The author has a knack of taking heavy topics and drawing the reader in.  You can never go wrong with a Sorensen novel and Breaking Nova is no exception.

Happy Reading!!

Saturday Shenanigans

I don't know about you, but I am glad it is finally the weekend.  Phew, I am exhausted.  I spent one too many nights up into the wee hours finishing some very amazing books.  The bags under my eyes were well worth it.

I started the week off by reading Picking Up the Pieces by Jessica Prince.  Gah!  What an amazing story.  I can't wait to share my review during her blog tour in a few weeks.  If you haven't read it yet I suggest you get a move on.  You won't be sorry.

During the middle of the week I decided to mix it up a little by switching genres with two great paranormal novels Shattered Promises and Fractured Souls by Jessica Sorensen.  Spending a few days with Gemma and Alex was great.  Delving into the world of the supernatural is always fun and Sorensen novels are always a little gut wrenching.  Both were amazing reads.

I am finishing off the week with If You Leave by Courtney Cole.  I am half way through and am loving it.  If you liked the story of Mila and Pax in If You Stay you will fall in love with Madison and Gabriel.  I cannot wait to write my review for this one.  Stay tuned.

Adding this week's books to my read list has brought my total to 124 books this year!!  Sweet baby Jesus.  I am in awe of myself.  Even to me that sounds like an incredible number, but I assure you it is true.  Mr. Fabulous will vouch for me as well.  He has witnessed me curled up in "my spot" reading four countless hours.   My ultimate goal this year is 200 books.  Can I make it?  We shall see, but I have to tell you I have a really good feeling about it.

So what great stories will round out the end of the year?  I am working through some amazing ARC's for upcoming blog tours.  BLOG TOURS! I am so excited.  If you have any recommendations of great books I should have on my to be read list I am all ears.  Let me hear your suggestions.

I hope your week was filled with some spectacular reading.

Happy reading!!

Review: Shattered Promises By: Jessica Sorensen

Shattered Promises

Review:  I have said it before, but I will say it again, I love paranormal novels because anything goes.  There are no rules.  Everything you think you know about reality is a joke.  Every wildest dream and fairy tale is real.  Gemma learns this very quickly in Shattered Promises.

"No matter how many supernatural books I've read, it's a hell of a lit different that real life."

"...was as if I was an object that filled up space, moved without cause and served no purpose."

Gemma is a college senior who has never felt a single human emotion.  She has witnessed a wide variety of them, but could never understand.  Inside she is numb, left wondering if that is how she would live the rest of her life.  If perhaps some people simply do not feel emotions like everyone else.  Resigning to theory her whole world is thrown upside down when something snaps and the flood gates open.

"He moves like a cat with measured stretches of his long limbs and every muscle in his body flexes underneath his grey Henley and jeans."

Alex is unlike any man Gemma has met.  He is hot and then cold.  Up then down.  Friendly then mean.  Trying to understand the pattern of his emotions is exhausting.  Furthermore, she has a distinct feeling that she has met him before.  What Gemma doesn't realize is how right those new found feelings are.

"I'm starting to realize that maybe I'm not as crazy as I've always thought.  Maybe everyone is crazy.  Maybe crazy is actually normal."

Thrown into a world where reality and lore are intertwined, Gemma must determine who she can trust and who she must be leery of.  Will she be able to decipher her past and change the course of her future?

I have fallen in love with Jessica Sorensen's style of writing.  Every time I pickup one of her books I am never disappointed.  She take the reader on an unbelievable journey and makes them second guess everything they know to be real.  I loved the layers of deception.  The mystery and suspense of Gemma's journey.  I watched anxiously to see if Gemma could breakdown the Alex's walls.

I have to warm you this novel ends with a giant cliffhanger, which I have come to expect from the author.  Have no fear though, Fractured Souls is live on Amazon.

Until next time,

Happy Reading!!

Daily Swoon: Terrific Tuesday

OK, so I need to work on the name of Tuesday's Daily Swoon.  I promise to bust out my thesaurus as soon as I am done here and try to find a better adjective.

I want to say, Happy Release Day to a few authors.

First to Courtney Cole for the release of If You Leave.  This book is already in the top 100 on Amazon.  Congratulations! I was very excited to find this waiting for me in my Kindle this morning.  It is at the top of my list to read this week.

Next to Tammara Webber for the release of Here Without You (Between The Lines #4).  I have enjoyed this series so much.  I cannot wait to read the next installment.

Also to Emily Trent, Happy Belated Release Day for Captivated.  I have not had the pleasure of reading any of Ms. Trent's novels, but I plan to remedy that very quickly!!

Yesterday, I finished up Picking Up The Pieces by Jessica Prince.  My review will not be posted until September 10th, when the blog tour rolls around.  I won't give anything away right now, but I have to say, go out and check it out.  Right now, I am reading Shattered Promises by Jessica Sorensen.  I have had it on my Kindle for a while and decided it was time.  I will let you know what I think as soon as I am finished.

Until then,

Happy Reading!!
