Blog Tour: Before We Fall by Courtney Cole

Sometimes, one dark moment is all it takes to turn your world black...

For 24-year old Dominic Kinkaide, that moment took place on the night of his high school graduation. One dark incident changed him forever. He's a hardened actor now, famous in the eyes of the world, but tortured in his own. He doesn't care about much of anything, except for losing himself in the roles that he plays.

23-year old Jacey Vincent doesn't realize how much her father's indifference has affected her. She is proof that sometimes it isn't one specific moment that wrecks a person, but rather it's an absence of moments. She's like a bird with a broken wing-strong yet fragile, as she tries to float through life, finding acceptance in the arms of random guys, one after the other... to fill the void that her father left in her.

Until she meets Dominic.

After jaded Dominic and strong-willed Jacey are thrown together, his secret and her issues create a dark and damaged energy that will soon turn their attraction to each other into an explosive storm.

Even though when the clouds have cleared and the dust has settled, both of them are almost obliterated... they've learned a priceless lesson.

Sometimes, before we fall... we fly.

I had the honor of recieving this book as an arc for an honest review. Courtney Cole has done it again!! I truly loved the entire Beautifully Broken Series.

Dominic Kinkaide... mmmmm... Dark, tall and twisted... Dom is an actor who likes his privacy, sick of woman falling to his feet when they find out who he is. Don't the realize it's pathetic?

Shielding himself from extreme pain that he has experienced a few short years ago, he refuses to get close to anyone. Lurking in the shadows and watching the scenes unfold before him is the only way to find release, the only way he can allow himself to feel again.

Jacey Vincent is no stranger from heartache, pain, and wrong choices. Guy after guy she finds herself in a downward spiral struggling to survive. After meeting Dominic and seeing the dark side of him, she can't help but feel the natural pull towards him. Dark and twisted is her specialty in men.

Being thrown together by misfortune, these two start to lean on each other more and more. Knowing their agreement was to only have fun, they can't help but feel more. But can a relationship truly build with two broken souls? Learning how dark Dom's past really is, she fights to bring him to reality, to help him let go of his heartache.

With passion between these characters unfolding on the pages, I couldn't help but to be completely captivated. Sweet and innocent verse dark and twisted, how could you not be! The epilogue of this novel gave me goosebumps, deep in the soul goosebumps, and I couldn't have envisioned a more perfect ending!

Enjoy <3

EXCERPT:

Are you feeling warm yet?”
I watch his lips as he speaks the words, husky and low.   His lips are full, yet manly and suddenly I ache to lean over and press mine to his, to touch them in any way that I can.
But I don’t.
Because I’m not a girl who gets used.  Not anymore.
 “No, not at all.”
But Dominic takes that as a challenge.  He’s not used to hearing the word no and he’s not about to start now.  I see that in his dark eyes a scant moment before he dips his head and consumes my mouth.
I say consume, instead of kiss, because that’s what he does.
He consumes me.
His lips are fiery and hot and he kisses me with a fierceness that touches a secret part of me; moist, hot, firm, sexy.  I want to inhale him, to suck him down.  I vaguely feel his hands on my back, his warmth emanating through my clothes, his hardness pushing into my softness.
I’m breathless when he pulls away.
“What about now?”
For the life of me, I’m afraid to answer that.  Instead, I pull away, just a bit, just enough that there is some space between us, but I can still absorb his warmth.   As my teeth chatter, both from the cold and from the suddden absence of his lips, I answer.
“I’m good.”
He laughs, a husky, low, naughty sound.
“Oh, I’m sure of that.”
And just like that, I’m drawn back in… in toward his sexy smile, his arrogant gaze and his knowing smirk.  He’s bad for me.  Very bad for me.   I’ve got to remember that.
He will decimate you, I tell myself.
But my problem is, every time I look into his dark eyes and see the mysterious things that lurk there, I forget that.   I forget everything that is supposed to matter.

Be the First to Fall Excerpt: Before We Fall by Courtney Cole

One dark moment was all it took to turn twenty-four-year-old Dominic Kinkaide's world black. On the night of his high school graduation, a single incident changed him forever, and he became a hardened man-famous in the eyes of the world, but tortured inside. Now all he cares about is losing himself in the roles that he plays.

At twenty-three years old, Jacey Vincent doesn't realize how much her father's indifference has affected her. She is proof that sometimes it isn't one specific moment that wrecks a person, but an absence of moments. She tries to find acceptance in the arms of men to fill the void-a plan that has worked just fine for her, until she meets Dominic.  When jaded Dominic and strong-willed Jacey are thrown together, the combination of his secrets and her issues turns their attraction into the perfect storm. It could change their lives for good-if it doesn't tear them both apart…

Excerpt
He laughs, a velvety sound.  “Babe, I could show you a bunch of things you’ve never done.  And I guarantee, you’d like every one of them.”
For some reason, I have no doubt of that.  It’s an exciting thought.
He bends his head and nips at my neck, then soothes the bite with a soft suck.  His lips, so soft and smooth, ease the pain of the bite away.   His nearness is intoxicating and everything about him screams that he is capable of so many things… things that would please me… things that would embarrass me in the light of day.
But still, I don’t move. I stay right with him, my gaze frozen on his.
Keeping his eyes on mine, he slowly dips his head and plunges his tongue into my mouth, completely plundering it, consuming me yet again.  It’s like he can’t kiss me without devastating all of my senses at once, annihilating my thoughts and causing my blood to throb as it all races toward one destination… the V between my legs.
Right where I ache for him.
He’s like a drug….and one taste just isn’t enough.
I open up my mouth and breathe around his lips, sucking in air, grasping at his back and pulling him closer.  He reaches back and grabs my hands, holding them together at my wrists and pinning them over my head against the plexi-glass gondola cage.  I’m trapped here with him, yet there’s no place I’d rather be.
The energy around us now is primal and raw…and it’s exhilarating too, because we’re out in public.  Every time the gondola swoops along the ground before it begins its ascent upward again, anyone could look in and see what we’re doing.  They could see Dominic pinning me against the wall, and his other hand buried in my crotch, if only they looked closely.
Honestly, I think he might like that idea.
“What are you doing?” I finally manage to whisper, pulling away just ever so slightly.
His eyes are a little unfocused, his pupils dilated. “What would you like for me to do, Jacey?”

He knows.  Oh, God, he knows.  He knows exactly what I’d like for him to do.

If You Leave: The Beautifully Broken Series: Book 2 by: Courtney Cole

If You Leave: The Beautifully Broken Series: Book 2
By Courtney Cole

Synopsis: "In If You Leave, we continue the wild ride Courtney Cole started us on in If You Stay. This raw story of heartbreak and hope solidifies Cole's standing as a rising star in hot contemporary romance." -New York Times Bestselling author of Down to You, M. Leighton

"Another raw, gritty masterpiece with a sexy-as-hell Army Ranger to swoon over." -K.A. Tucker, author of Ten Tiny Breaths

26-year old Gabriel Vincent is a badass hero. Or he used to be, anyway. As an ex-Army Ranger, Gabe never thought he needed anyone. But after one horrible night in Afghanistan scars him in a way that he can't get past, he needs someone who can help him heal...even if he doesn't realize it.

25-year old Madison Hill doesn't need anybody...or so she thinks. She grew up watching her parents' messed-up abusive relationship and she knows there's no way in hell that she's ever letting that happen to her.

They don't know it in the beginning, but Gabriel and Madison will soon develop a weakness: Each other.

But Gabriel's got a secret, a hidden monster that he's afraid Maddy could never overcome... And Maddy's got issues that she's afraid Gabe will never understand. They quickly realize that they need each other to be whole, but at the same time they know that they've got demons to fight.

And the problem with demons is that they never die quietly..

***

Review:  Finding the words to express how I feel after reading Madison and Gabriel's story is difficult.  I am at a loss for words, and coming from me that is saying a lot.  I believe this is all due to the fact that I can hardly think straight and am having a hard time seeing the keys through the tears in my eyes.  God, this book was amazing.  I have read dozens of books exploring a variety of emotions and this one brought me to my knees.

Madison is strong and stubborn.  She has given up all of her dreams to come home, after the passing of her parents.  Feeling, out of guilt, that it is her obligation to look after her sister, Mila, and their parents' restaurant even if it means putting her own ambitions on hold.  Each of us has stood at the crossroads of our lives and have had to make tough decisions.  Choices that alter the course of our lives.  Moments that have us choosing what we think we have to do verses what we want to do.  This sacrifice has left Maddy feeling more empty than resentful, but she is doing the best she can.

Gabriel is a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.  A Ranger.  His entire life has been about being a solider.  It is what he was born to do.  It is in his blood.  But what do you do when you can no longer do the one thing you were meant to? This is where Gabe finds himself; between the life he always wanted and the life he can no longer live.  Is he strong enough to push aside the haunting demons that plague his nightmares?  Or will they push him from the ledge?

Madison and Gabriel bring out the best and worst in each other.  They challenge one another.  They offer comfort and strength.  They draw out the things neither of them wants to face; their fears.  What happens when their biggest fears are each other?

Courtney Cole's writing is beautiful.  She took a very real, very serious topic and presented it with honor and dignity.  Showing that even the bravest among us, those who put themselves in harms way everyday so we can each enjoy our freedoms, sometimes need help.  There is no weakness in that.  We control our fear, not the other way around.

I enjoyed that the author weaved Mila and Pax into the story.  Offering the reader glimpses of their life after If You Stay.  Using their struggle, perseverance, and love as example of the possibilities available to Maddy and Gabe.  Together there is nothing they can't overcome.

If You Leave has earned a spot on my "favorites" shelf.  It is my new must read recommendation to everyone!

Happy reading!!

Saturday Shenanigans

I don't know about you, but I am glad it is finally the weekend.  Phew, I am exhausted.  I spent one too many nights up into the wee hours finishing some very amazing books.  The bags under my eyes were well worth it.

I started the week off by reading Picking Up the Pieces by Jessica Prince.  Gah!  What an amazing story.  I can't wait to share my review during her blog tour in a few weeks.  If you haven't read it yet I suggest you get a move on.  You won't be sorry.

During the middle of the week I decided to mix it up a little by switching genres with two great paranormal novels Shattered Promises and Fractured Souls by Jessica Sorensen.  Spending a few days with Gemma and Alex was great.  Delving into the world of the supernatural is always fun and Sorensen novels are always a little gut wrenching.  Both were amazing reads.

I am finishing off the week with If You Leave by Courtney Cole.  I am half way through and am loving it.  If you liked the story of Mila and Pax in If You Stay you will fall in love with Madison and Gabriel.  I cannot wait to write my review for this one.  Stay tuned.

Adding this week's books to my read list has brought my total to 124 books this year!!  Sweet baby Jesus.  I am in awe of myself.  Even to me that sounds like an incredible number, but I assure you it is true.  Mr. Fabulous will vouch for me as well.  He has witnessed me curled up in "my spot" reading four countless hours.   My ultimate goal this year is 200 books.  Can I make it?  We shall see, but I have to tell you I have a really good feeling about it.

So what great stories will round out the end of the year?  I am working through some amazing ARC's for upcoming blog tours.  BLOG TOURS! I am so excited.  If you have any recommendations of great books I should have on my to be read list I am all ears.  Let me hear your suggestions.

I hope your week was filled with some spectacular reading.

Happy reading!!

Daily Swoon: Terrific Tuesday

OK, so I need to work on the name of Tuesday's Daily Swoon.  I promise to bust out my thesaurus as soon as I am done here and try to find a better adjective.

I want to say, Happy Release Day to a few authors.

First to Courtney Cole for the release of If You Leave.  This book is already in the top 100 on Amazon.  Congratulations! I was very excited to find this waiting for me in my Kindle this morning.  It is at the top of my list to read this week.

Next to Tammara Webber for the release of Here Without You (Between The Lines #4).  I have enjoyed this series so much.  I cannot wait to read the next installment.

Also to Emily Trent, Happy Belated Release Day for Captivated.  I have not had the pleasure of reading any of Ms. Trent's novels, but I plan to remedy that very quickly!!

Yesterday, I finished up Picking Up The Pieces by Jessica Prince.  My review will not be posted until September 10th, when the blog tour rolls around.  I won't give anything away right now, but I have to say, go out and check it out.  Right now, I am reading Shattered Promises by Jessica Sorensen.  I have had it on my Kindle for a while and decided it was time.  I will let you know what I think as soon as I am finished.

Until then,

Happy Reading!!
