BLOG TOUR: Be My Downfall by: Lyla Payne

Synopsis:  Toby Wright has always prided himself on being one of the most normal guys at Whitman University. He loves his parents, has a great job lined up after graduation, and with the exception of attempting to cross the unbalanced Sebastian Blair sophomore year, has kept his nose pretty clean.

But the rich never have empty closets, and memories long stashed away come spilling free when notorious party girl Kennedy Gilbert almost dies in his dorm room.

Nobody really knows how Kennedy manages to stay in good standing at Whitman–she never goes to class, doesn’t pretend to care about her future, and as far as people can tell, is never sober. This isn’t her first meeting with a stomach pump, but it is the first time she’s woken up to Toby’s concerned brown eyes. Despite the fact that she prefers life without friends, he gets under her skin with his insistence on playing her guardian angel.

No one knows better than Toby that people can only be saved if they want to be, but the realization that she has no one else draws him back into the shadows of Kennedy’s life–and eventually into her bed. But she long ago came to terms with a truth that Toby refuses to accept: she doesn’t want to be rescued, she only wants to forget.

Unwilling to give up on her, Toby’s dragged under by this broken girl and her dark, twisted Whitman University he never guessed existed. If he struggles to the surface, he’ll abandon someone he loves for the second time in his life. If he doesn’t, it won’t be long until they both drown.

Review:  Sometimes even if we survive a tramatic event we suffer wounds so deep we are forever changed.  Walking away from a horrific experience doesn't always mean we are able to hold out heads high and continue down the same path.  It is these moments that change out lives so profoundly we cannot see through the pain.

From afar Kennedy looks like trouble.  She is reckless and careless.  Her days are spent in a fog and her nights in a drunken haze.  Kennedy is the exact type of girl Toby should stay away from.  Not only do her action draw negative attention, which is not something a Senator's son needs, but she also conjures painful memories of his past.  Knowing this, why can't Toby stay away?  Why can't he get her out of his mind?

Kennedy is aware of how messed up her life is.  She is well aware of every single thing that is wrong, but this is the way it must be.  Numbness is all she knows noe.  All she deserves.  Meeting Toby changes things.  His friendship stirs something within Kennedy.  Forgien things.  Forbidden things.

Is Toby's friendship anbd love enough to guide Kennedy home?  Will Toby be drown in the sea of Kennedy's despair?  Can love conquer all?

I enjoyed the balance of Kennedy and Toby.  Toby's strength balanced Kennedy's weakness.  Toby's light filtered through Kennedy's darkness.  Toby was a great character.  his caring nature was admirable.  I also liked Kennedy.  She was vunerable and scared, but still so full of life.  Be sure to read their story today!

Happy Reading!!

Review:  Dreams.  They come to us in the night taking us to places both familiar and foreign.  They have the power to give us both delight and horror.  Dreams free us and bind us all at once.  Those of us who remember each and every nightly adventure see it as either a blessing or a curse.

For as long as Tess can remember she has had the same reoccurring nightmare.  Despite her best efforts she can not shake the same scene from playing night after night.  Each morning she awakes with the same feeling of anxiety and confussion.  What does it all mean?  Are they random images stuck on repeat or is there something more behind them?

The author begins Tess's journey as a teenager and develops her story over the course of a few years.  It was great to see Tess grow from a typical teenage girl, to a hardworking college student, to a remarkable young woman.  As the reader watches Tess grow up they get to witness key moments that will change her life forever.  The 'normal' Tess thought she knew isn't so normal after all.

The author's writing was great!  Her story development was spot on.  She efficiently brought the characters to life. The dialogue among the characters was smooth and realistic.  The one element of a novel I always take notice of is the authors use of words and their descriptions.  Sometimes this can make or break a book for me.  Jalpa nailed it for me with lines like, "The sky is the color of a robin's egg with tufts of small, white clouds on the horizon."  Perfection!  Also, I enjoyed the soundtrack of this novel.  It brought the story to life and added a few new favorite songs to my iPod.

I am Jalpa Williby's newest fan and I hope after reading Chaysing Dreams you will be too.  Look for Chaysing Dreams on Amazon.com and also be on the look out for the next book in this trilogy.

Happy Reading!!

Review:  Oh Gage!!  How I love thee.  Have you noticed that the biggest men are really big softies on the inside?  Gage is no exception.

At the end of Who He Is Ellie left Gage heartbroken.  No, that is too nice.  She left him in that parking lot completely shattered.  Ellie thought it was for the best.  Gage had big dreams, but Ellie had her own equally bright future.  She didn't see how the two could coexist.

Several months have past since she last saw Gage, but that doesn't mean Ellie has stopped thinking of him.  Having to visit her father, Ben, Ellie knows she will once again have to see Gage.  Just being in the same building as him causes the sparks to fly, both good and bad.  Time may have passed, but emotions are still running high.  Their connection is as strong as ever.

Reuniting with Gage is not without drama and complications.  Is Ellie ready to make space in her plans for Gage?  Will Gage quote playing games and free himself from the distractions?  Can he be the man Ellie needs?

The author once again delivered.  My emotions were all over the place.  I laughed.  I cried.  I was mad and sad.  Wow.  I enjoyed the fact that Ellie knew what she wanted and refused to back down.  I loved that when push came to shove.  Ellie and Gage were there for each other.  I did feel that the last part of the books was rushed.  It a few points I had to flip back a few pages because I thought I missed something.

The author did a wonderful job strengthening the supporting cast.  Kelsey was exactly what Ellie needed.  Ellie needed a friend she could turn to and she found that connection in Kelsey.  I am thrilled that Roy will be receiving his very own book.  I enjoyed his development over these two novels.  I look forward to reading about the mystery behind the man.

Happy Reading!!

Excerpt

Kenna

I wake up to an empty space beside me.  Jake never came back to bed last night.  We always sleep together, even with his nightmares, or when we are fighting.  After all the time spent apart with the deployments, we treasure the little things more, like being wrapped up in one another.  What is going on with him that he didn’t want to sleep beside me?
I shower and dress for my day, trying to tame my irritation.  I descend our stairs, reaching the bottom; I stop and stare.  Jake is asleep sitting up on the couch, empty beer bottle still in his hand.  This gorgeous man is snoozing away in his boxer briefs.  Watching him breathe in such a relaxed state, I take in the man before me.
Jake is built lean like a swimmer.  When standing, he is five feet ten inches tall.  He has a trim build with broad shoulders.  He is not overly muscular but he is toned everywhere, especially in the definition of his chest and abs.  He has dusty brown hair with deep green eyes.  For me, he is a perfect fit, and the sexiest man I’ve seen.
As I take in the steady up down rhythm of his chest, I am drawn to the angel tattoo.  She is moving with him with his every breath, as he inhales and exhales.  This movement pushes the words around her, causing them to practically scream out to me.  I get teary eyed remembering that specific ink experience.
It was right before his first deployment to Iraq.  He said I have always been his angel, saving him from himself since the day we met.  The angel on his chest was designed to resemble me in her facial features.  The script seems to dance around her.
‘Watch over me, carry me, bring me always safely through to my loves waiting arms’
Mentally, I have got to shape up.  Jake does not need me as a distraction with all that is on his plate at the garage.  Dwelling on the marriage that will never occur isn’t going to help either of us.  I am Jake’s love, as he is mine.  I wait when necessary for the next opportunity to hold him close, and always carry him in my heart.
I see Dina with Ryder, knowing their day is coming soon.  The desire for that level of commitment is evident in the way they look at each other.  Maggie has made it more than clear to Brayden (and everyone else) that she expects a proposal sooner rather than later.  Both of these couples are so in love and on the path to wedded bliss.
Jake and I are still head over heels in love with each other.  Despite all the years together, I continue to get butterflies when I see him.  The honeymoon phase has never ended for us.
Seeing our friends so happy and in love is wonderful.  I truly am overjoyed for them.  This whole wedding thing, where Jake and I are concerned, shouldn’t bother me so much.  Yet, it does.  What am I to do about it now?

REVIEW: Astral Ordinance Book I by Meltem Y.K

Amazon: Click Here
B&N: Click Here
Goodreads: Click Here

Synopsis: Jayna is about to graduate from high school and embark on an exciting journey in higher education – or so she thinks. In the wee hours of one fateful night she finds herself in the middle of a battle with demons. She assumes it’s a nightmare; a young warrior, Ethan Wells, convinces her otherwise. Jayna discovers that she is an evolved human who can travel between dimensions and is also capable of extinguishing demons. She is a prime candidate for the Astral army. An innocent first-love blossoms between Jayna and Ethan. They become partners in the Astral army against demons and other forms of evil. Ethan is in charge of her training; they spend the next few years as carefree college students by day, demon fighters by night. However, there is a small glitch in their happiness: They are forbidden by the Astral Masters to see each other on Earth. As much as they love one another, they cannot be together in their physical forms. However, the Astral Plane is about to experience a first.

Review: Jayna and Ethan are not your ordinary high school students. They first meet when Jayna finds herself in a nightmare, or so she thought. She soon realizes that they are both evolved humans who can travel between dimensions, and are also extraordinary warriors who extinguish demons in the Toxic Plane.

It does not taken Jayna and Ethan long to acknowledge the true love between then, and how they have been destined to be together, as they are eternal soul mates. Throughout the story we meet several of their friends and family and are taken into worlds and experiences only some can believe are real. We learn just how important good karma is and how evolved their little group really is.

I was unsure if I would like this book when I first started reading it, as it is very YA, and not my typical genre. I am very glad that I stuck with it, as I soon found myself entrapped in their dimensions. I found myself very intrigued reading about the different gifts each character was able to discover they had and how important good karma really is. The author did a fantastic job luring in this unsure reader into the great world of the "unknown".

BLOG TOUR & GIVEAWAY: Running from Forever By: Ashley Wilcox

Synopsis:  ***This book is a spin-off of Waiting on Forever with no prior books needed to be read before it***

Recent college graduate, Kayla Reynolds was ready to leave the university, sorority life behind. Leaving her boyfriend of over three years, she packed her bags and moved four hours south to the big city…New York City. Bright lights, streets that never sleep, and a business lifestyle that she yearned to have were all at her fingertips.

Kayla Reynolds was chasing her dream.

Determined and eager to make it in the corporate world, Kayla changed everything- her image, lifestyle, and outlook on life, putting her career first and her personal life second. That was until her first day, the first time she got a glimpse of Miles Blackwell. Corporate CEO and part owner of ETV, and not to mention, incredibly handsome, Miles Blackwell took Kayla by surprise, stealing her heart as he did.

But nothing had ever come that easy for Kayla. Life had always seemed to have a personal vendetta against her, stepping in when everything seemed too good to be true, reminding herself of whom she really was. It wasn’t until she met Merrick Drake that she realized when to stop; when running was no longer an option. For the first time in her life she had someone she could relate to; someone who wouldn’t judge- who saw the person she was inside. She and Merrick connected…on more levels than one.

When life was too much to handle, they ran.

But there was only one person that could make Kayla stop for good. Only one man that made her want to stay.

Would Kayla finally stop running or would it all be too much to handle?

Excerpt

She let out an exasperated breath. “No. No, I gotta figure this out.” She turned to face me, legs crossed, intertwined. “I don’t know what to do, Merrick.”
I felt it in my chest. She was lost, pleading for help. I didn’t know if I was the best person to help her. I’d lived just as fucked up a life myself. From the age I could run, I did, staying at friend’s houses almost every day of the week, stopping home quick after school just to make sure my mom hadn’t overdosed and was dead on the floor. I did this almost my whole life…up until I ran here.
“I can’t really help you, babe, if I don’t know what happened,” I told her as sympathetically as I could, looking into her sad eyes. Even if I wasn’t the most qualified person to give advice, I wanted to help, but I also needed to know what happened first.
Kayla rubbed her face with her hands, keeping them over her eyes for a minute longer. She was thinking; questioning if she was ready to spill. I didn’t want to force her to do it, so I sat there quietly. I wish I could just sweep her up and run far, far away; take her away from all the bad in her life permanently, but that would mean I had to run again, and I was done running. I couldn’t do it anymore.
“I loved him.” Her voice was a whisper. She removed her hands from her face but only to look down to her crisscrossed feet. She couldn’t look at me while she told me, and I was okay with that. “I let my guard down when I knew I shouldn’t have, but I couldn’t help it.”

Review:  Is there a timeline to love?  Is it written in some cosmic rulebook that you must know someone for a certain amount of time before you can say those three magical words?  Of course not!  Sometimes love builds over time, smoldering and crackling beneath the ashes.  Other times it ignites your soul from only the smallest spark.

Kayla is a recent college graduate running from a comfortable ho hum life to the exciting adventure she has always wanted.  Taking off to NYC to work for one of the country's largest entertainment broadcasters is a dream come true.  Deciding to focus solely on her career, finding live, or even lust, is the last thing on her agenda.  But when does anything ever go according to plan?

Miles has lived a life of privilege, filled with the best money can buy.  Gorgeous women drape themselves across his arm and change on a near weekly basis.  This lifestyle suits him just fine until one early morning in the elevator of the ETV building.  Miles' world was knocked off it's axis with just one look at Kayla.  he was drawn to her.  Captivated by her.  Knowing her has to have her, he forgoes all other plans to make that happen.

With Kayla, Miles' feels something her has never experienced before.  But is that spark enough to set their relationship ablaze?

While Running from Forever is the story of Kayla and Miles, for me the true star of the book was Merrick.  He was my favorite character in this novel.  I loved that he was a down to Earth guy who didn't treat Kayla like she was made of glass.  I enjoyed Kayla's determination.  She knew what she wanted and committed to making it happen.  I thought Miles was a little too sweet, but that is my own personal preference and shouldn't reflect poorly on the character himself.  He was sweet, kind, and gentle.

This was my first novel out of Ashley Wilcox series.  I will definitely have to find the time to read the others.  I especially look forward to Merrick's story!

Happy Reading!!

Meet Ashley Wilcox

Some may consider me a jack of all trades, but I consider myself well rounded.
I’ve waitressed, styled hair, answered phones and, most recently, worked full time as mom to my two beautiful little boys.
Then there was this book… Everyone and their brother started talking about this book series titled Fifty Shades of Grey by EL James. I didn’t really pay attention to the craze at first, since I wasn’t a big reader- okay, I didn’t read at all. But curiosity got the best of me, so I downloaded it to my kindle.
I was immediately hooked. I read the whole series in three days. Yes, three books in three days.
I kept finding all these great books that I HAD to read (just ask my credit card!).
Then I started hearing voices. Voices that turned into stories; stories that were begging to get out of my head.
I started writing them down on scraps of paper. Then I transferred them to my computer. Before I knew it, Planning on Forever was born.
The voices in my head are still talking, so I’m still writing.
